PEDIATRIC NEURO SPECIALTIES & SERVICES
Play therapy is a therapeutic and psychological intervention
that uses play to help children with Cerebral Palsy develop a
better sense of inclusion using both directed and nondirected play. This allows children to not only learn how to
interact with others and develop relationships, it also
provides physical strategies children can use to perform.
Play therapy incorporates the child’s physical abilities,
cognitive functioning levels and emotional needs in a safe,
supportive environment.
But play therapy’s benefits are more far more comprehensive, and include:
Increased self-confidence
Improved decision-making
Improved feeling of control over their environment
Enabled adaptive play
Resolution of emotional barriers
Reduced feelings of anxiety, depression and anger
Developed cognitive problem-solving
Increased autonomy
Increased relaxation
Increased learning
Improved self-expression
Decreased feelings of separateness
AQUVATIC THERAPY
Aqua therapy, also known as aquatic therapy, is a sequence of water based exercises that help improve a person’s physical abilities and
functions. It has been approved by the medical community as a way to help heal the body. Aquatic therapy is particularly beneficial for
children with cerebral palsy since it allows the children to move freely without putting stress or much weight on their bodies. Water is known
to reduce weight by 90%.
Aquatic therapists generally have several goals when working with children with cerebral palsy, including helping kids to:
Develop more muscle control
Increase self-confidence
Improve strength and physical function
Gain more life independence .
Children with disability are like
butterflies with a broken wing. They are as beautiful as all the rest
but need a little help spreading their wings!
